By Hamis Kaheruand Joyce NamutebiPremier Prof. Apolo Nsibambi has defended President Yoweri Museveni’s trips outside the country.Nsibambi was reacting to concerns by some MPs that the President’s trips were many. While debating the President’s State of the Nation Address last week, some MPs said the President should not have delegated the important function of delivering the address to the Vice-President.They said he should have delegated the VP to attend the conference on food security in Rome so that he could deliver his address in person.Nsibambi said, “This still is equally explained by His Excellency’s struggle to search for more markets for our products and to woo investors to Uganda in order to generate employment opportunities.”He said some of the benefits of the trips abroad were exemplified by Uganda’s entrance to the US market through the Africa Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA). “This is a direct consequence of persistent struggle by the President,” Nsibambi said.Ends
