SIR— Crime Stoppers is a programme in the western world that has created an impact in curbing crime in the community.The recent wave of crime is on the increase in Kampala and surrounding areas is now a matter of concern. Crime Stoppers works with the media, community and law enforcement departments. Any member of the public can call the toll free line of Crime Stoppers and inform them of any crime committed or about to be committed. The caller (referred as the tipster) remains anonymous to Crime Stoppers. And the media publishes all about the crime. Our police is only 15,000-strong; it cannot keep law and order among 23 million people.I appeal to NGOs, the Government, the public, private companies to support Crime Stoppers Uganda to fight crime.
