By Joyce Namutebiand Hamis KaheruLWEMIYAGA MP Theodore Ssekikubo has told Parliament that 1,852 people from 370 families are being evicted from their land in Mawogola, Ssembabule District.Ssekikubo has also petitioned the Minister of Water, Lands and Environment to halt the eviction of the families from Block 17, Plot. 12 at Kazzooba. He said the land in question is a leasehold measuring 740 hectares. He told Parliament Wednesday that the land was sold by the Non-Performing Assets Recovery Trust (NPART) to M/S Enos Tumusiime and Macdosman Kabega in April 2002 at sh6m.He said on this land there are public places like, two bore holes, and a valley dam that cost sh40m and a UPE school. He said the dam was a fulfilment of the presidential pledge to the parish of Lwessankala.“This, therefore, is to appeal to your good office for an immediate intervention and halt the looming human catastrophe should the eviction be carried out,” Ssekikubo said in letter to the minister dated July 22, 2002.
