By Joyce Namutebi The parliamentary committee on social services has complained about the lack of a department of sports in the Ministry of Education and Sports. The committee recommended that Parliament should not consider passing the budget of the Ministry for the next financial year (2003/2004) unless government has addressed the anomalies in sports, particularly the absence of the National Sports Policy, Ministry structures and funding of sports. The concerns and recommendations are contained in the committee report presented to and debated by the House yesterday. The committee, chaired by Dorothy Hyuha (Tororo) said that there is only the Minister of State for Sports, Oryem Okello and one official. The legislators were concerned that the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) is never brought to book over accountability of funds. “To whom is the FUFA responsible, is the concern of the committee,” they said.Ends
