Kampala—Uganda will host the third Pan African Conference on reading in 2003. It will focus on ways of translating “Education for All into Reading for All.” The first two conferences have already taken place in Pretoria (1999) and Abuja (2001). Prof. Kate Parry of the reading project says that “Education for all cannot mean much if children pass through school without learning to read or if, having learned to read , they have no access to books.”Ends
