A former diplomat at a Ugandan mission, Rose Nyakairu, has been appointed an under secretary in State House.

Sources said Nyakairu reported to her new office two weeks ago.

“Nyakairu, who replaces Jovia Kamateka, who had held the post since 1997, has already taken up the job and started normal duties. But I don’t know whether Kamateka was given another office,” a source said.

Kamateka, and Dennis Byaruhanga, senior assistant secretary one and Eric Byenkya, senior assistant secretary two, were early this year sent back to the President’s Office for re-deployment.

“President Yoweri Museveni personally ordered their transfer on February 12, 2002 for alleged inefficiency, failure to improve staff welfare and continued hiring of privately-owned vehicles to do State House work,” said the source.

“The President was upset because State House workers had been complaining that the three could not provide them (staff) with simple basic items like gum boots yet that was their responsibility,” the source said.
