The government has declared tomorrow, Friday September 13, a public holiday to enable the census exercise to be smooth.

Dan nSalasatta writes that the Minister of State for Planning, Isaac Musumba, said there will be a curfew on half of the census night, from mid-night tomorrow.

The minister has instructed the Town Clerk of Kampala, Mr Gordon Mwesigye, to draft the guidelines to be followed on the census night. The guidelines will be circulated to other municipalities and town councils in the country. He cited an example of the closure of markets on the census day, among the guidelines.

This is going to be the most comprehensive population census ever conducted in Uganda. Detailed information will be collected about the characteristics of the individual members of the household, the economic activities of the household members, among others.
