NATIONAL golf champion Deo Akope dropped six strokes in the decisive round to finish tenth overall at the Karen stroke play Challenge on Sunday.

William Muwonge reports that Akope carded 81 gross after posting 75 in each of the first two rounds for a 54-hole aggregate of 231.

Kenyan player David Odhiambo beat countryman Reuben Waweru on sudden death after the two stars were level at 218.

Odhiambo sunk a birdie on second hole of sudden death to win after his colleague settled for a par.
Another Kenyan Kopan Tinde was third overall at 220 in the event that drew players from Kenya, South Africa and Uganda.

The Entebbe player’s problems on the last 18 started on number 3 when he broke a club and then another on number six.

At that point, Akope was three strokes behind Waweru and seven less than Odhiambo.

Akope, making a third trip to Kenya in 20 days, was fifth at the Hippo-Pot Open in Kisumu last weekend.
