IN soccer, it was said, you could change cities, women, jobs or political affiliation, but never, ever could you change teams — until Dirisa Musisi ‘Kidomoole’ came along.
In a sport, where fanatics live perpetually on the edge of a nervous breakdown and love is expereinced through hatred of the adversary, Musisi’s announcement that he has moved from the Red of Express to the Blue of SC Villa is a first in Ugandan football.
“I promise to stay with Villa. I will always support Jogoo,” he told SC Villa president Franco Mugabe at Mandela stadium on Saturday. This was after newly crowned champions Villa had concluded their season with an emphatic 6-0 whipping of Mbarara.
The former Express FC die-hard fan was in the Jogoo half of the crowd and appeared in a Villa jersey. He joins another key fan Dirisa Mulema who crossed the floor.
“He is now a Villa fan and though he is yet to get a number, he has already got a T-shirt and cap,” Villa fans co-ordinator Siraje Mbuga told The New Vision.
“I have his passports (photos) and he will get his identity card and a number very soon,” Mbuga confirmed.
Mbuga said that another Express die-hard Luba Kyoya and another KCC fan from Mbale were also about to cross.
“We are only waiting for the right day to receive them here. This means that the club is performing well. People are not happy supporting clubs with no results,” he said.
Musisi’s has also had misunderstandings him with some Express fans.
“I have nothing against them,” he said about his former club.
At one point, Express’ fan co-ordinator Haruna Mawanda is quoted to have said that he was of no use to the club on an FM radio station, forcing him (Musisi) to return the television set that Express had bought him a while ago.
