FINISHING, was Charlie Lubega’s only ambition the last time he participated in the Castrol Uhuru rally in 1998.
He returns to the event four years later seeking nothing but victory as national champion. Gone are those days when his inability to make the finish line earned him the name ‘Tamale’ from local rally fans.
Lubega made his entry for the season ender rally, that will see all the top drivers battle in Busoga October 26-27, on Tuesday.
Lubega (Mitsubishi Evo4) who has already won the 2002 national championship will be looking to extend his tally to 15 NRC victories in six years.
“The Castrol rally normally comes when we have sealed the championship, we had a problem with tyres in the TOTAL Pearl rally and did not enjoy it. We will entertain our fans this time,” Lubega’s navigator Abed Musa said.
Emma Katto (Toyota Celica ST185), Ponsiano Lwakataka (Subaru Impreza), Arthur Blick (Toyota Supra) William Blick (Mitsubishi Evo), Issa Numba (Toyota MR II), Fred Kizito (Subaru Legacy) and Jinja boy Ben Koyesiga are the other drivers in the event so far.Ends
