PRISONS remained the team to beat when they retained the inter-forces championship title at Makerere on Saturday.

The champions proved outstanding having garnered 900 points after leading in track and field, soccer, netball, volleyball and handball.

Police took second place with 600 points and UPDF finished third. The army side that was let down by the absence of women competitors in most events, however, proved unbeatable in shooting where they took pole position with 509 points. Police followed with 411.

Despite an unmatched pace of soldier-boy Job Sikoria in 10000 and 5000 metres, UPDF could not stop Prisons’ dominance whose veterans Dinah Amoding, Mary Birungi and Margaret Ijala took most field events.

UPDF chances were further complicated when the netball team was suspended for fielding non-bonafide players.

The players in question who included national league players failed to beat a parade test handing Prisons the title without dropping any sweat.

The three-team event is meant to involve only members of the three armed forces.
