SIR— The Amnesty Commission would like to express its sadness on the unfortunate incident in which a local council secretary for defence in Ongako subcounty, Gulu, was accidentally shot dead by the UPDF together with three LRA rebels who had surrendered.
We also acknowledge the army’s apology about the accident. We assure combatants who wish to renounce rebellion that, in spite of this incident, they should come forward and take up amnesty for the sake of peace in Uganda.
