YUMBE — Local council and women councillors are to be relieved of paying graduated tax for a year. The district women MP, Nusura Tiperu, said this in fulfilment of her campaign promise. Tiperu told sub-county chiefs to compile a list of the taxpayers of the old council and forward it to her for action.

School burnt
YUMBE — Lukutua Primary School was recently set ablaze. The LC3 chairman, Moses Rubeson, told The New Vision that the grass-thatched school with four classrooms and one office in the same block got burnt last week. He said the cause of the fire has not yet been identified.

Funds out
KITGUM — The town council has released over sh10m towards the completion of Kitgum Primary Teachers’ Demonstration school. finance committee chairman Amos Oling Olaa said this during a council meeting at Passengers’ Shade. He said over sh11m was released for road maintenance programmes.

Market bid
YUMBE — Construction of plots in the town council main market has hit a snag. The town council LC3 chairman, Moses Rubeso, said this happened because one of the land lords, Kassim Laka, wanted his portion estimated to be 52 metres by 120 metres to be rented by the town council at a rate of sh500,000 per month.
