Lira municipal council health centre recently closed after workers went on a sit down strike over non-payment, reports Martin Ekanya.
The centre rendered free services to mainly the internally displaced people.
The workers said they were not paid for nine months.
Some workers said the municipal council last paid their salaries for January and February.
The New Vision has learnt that payment of the workers was shifted from the municipality to the ministry of health.
“They keep tossing us up and down. Municipal authorities say our paylist was withdrawn from there yet the district say our payment is not yet there. Where do we go yet school fees are on our necks?” one worker wondered.
The town clerk, Paul Ogwal Olule, said measures were underway to rectify the situation.
He said it was not a strike but workers did not know who to consult. The CAO, Dan Odwedo, said the issue was handled by the district director of health services.Ends
