TWO Ugandan university students over the weekend crashed to death in India, soon after they completed their three-year bachelor’s degrees.
Bruce Owen Okumu, 23, Bachelor of Commerce graduate from Agra University and Bob Bachengana, 24, Bachelor of Information Technology from Delhi, were on a motorbike when they rammed into a stationery caterpillar grader near Agra on Saturday morning. They died instantly.
A Ugandan friend to the deceased, Emmanuel Kintu, informed The New Vision from India that the accident occurred at about 2:00am as the students headed to Agra town to get a taxi.
“It’s horrible! The entire Ugandan community here is in shock. We have spent the whole day at the mortuary to put these guys in shape because they were terribly crushed. One had a cracked skull and another sustained a broken hip and bone,†Kintu said.
Henry Rodney Mugisha, a former president of the Uganda students association said the accident was caused by poor visibility due to the heavy mist in the current winter season.
He said the bodies will be flown back to Uganda by Saturday.
