THE Government will acquire a DNA testing machine next year.
The commissioner in-charge of the Government Analytical Laboratory based at Wandegeya, Joseph Erone, on Wednesday said the equipment would be imported from Switzerland at an estimated cost of US$ 200,000 (about sh368m).
Erone said the equipment would save the Government a lot of resources which it has been spending in sending specimen to Nairobi and South Africa for DNA tests.
Speaking to The New Vision after officiating at the annual workshop for state attorneys at Botanical Beach Hotel in Entebbe, Erone said DNA testing would also speed up the disposal of cases where DNA tests were required.
“We have been using primitive methods to carry out some tests. We have been sending complicated cases to Nairobi and South Africa for US$ 400-1,000,†he said.
He said defilement and murder cases requiring blood analysis would easily be dealt with. Ends
