THE State yesterday asked the Supreme Court to uphold the death sentence against John Sanyu Katuramu, saying the evidence against him and two others was overwhelming, reports Hillary Nsambu.

The former Tooro premier was convicted with Patrick Kwezi, his nephew and Alex Twinomugisha, a former NRA kadogo (child soldier), for the murder of Prince Happy Kijanangoma in March 1999 at Palace View Bar in Fort Portal.

They were appearing before five Justices in a bid to save their necks from the gallows, after the Court of Appeal upheld the death sentence.

Justices, Arthur Oder, John Wilson Tsekooko, Alfred Karokora, George William Kanyeihamba and Cosma Kato, said because they had to consider the submissions of both sides, they would give their verdict on notice.
