THE Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) on Tuesday shelled hideouts of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels in Palabek-Kal in Kitgum near the Sudan border, security sources said.

The UPDF, now on full alert at the Uganda-Sudan border, fought running battles with a group of LRA rebels who were trying to sneak back into Sudan through Lamwo county.

The Kitgum RDC, Santo Okot Lapolo, said the UPDF fire prevented the rebels from crossing the border.

The LC5 chairman, Nahaman Ojwee, said seven people were admitted at Kitgum hospital with injuries. Six people were reportedly killed.

On the same day, President Yoweri Museveni met LCs at the council hall.
