UGANDA National Examinations Board (UNEB) chief Mathew Bukenya and education minister Kiddu Makubuya, have described stories in the media that this year’s national examinations were full of flaws, as a sham, reports Cyprian Musoke.
Appearing before Parliament recently, the two, however, acknowledged having had some ‘glaring’ lapses in this year’s P7, S4 and S6 examinations and said the Examinations security board was reviewing the entire system and was contemplating suspending responsible officials.
“This (story) was not true. Records show that (Gayaza) students sat for their right Maths exam on 12 November and the French students sat for their French paper on 28. Neither the UNEB supervisor, nor the centre has complained to UNEB about Maths students being given a French exam,” Bukenya’s deputy said.
Makubuya and Bukenya were appearing together with the state minister for primary education, Namirembe Bitamazire, education service agency director Nassali Lukwago and acting PS Pascal Bigirimana, to defend the body before the social services committee.
There were numerous press reports of wrong or undelivered examination papers, including a wrong literature paper which was delivered country-wide and Gayaza which allegedly got French instead of Maths paper.
