By Ebenezer Bifubyeka BODA-BODA cyclists in Mbarara town were whipped on Monday night for riding noisy motorcycles. Over 50 cyclists went on a riding spree to celebrate the dawn of the New Year. Angry residents, who had their sleep interrupted, phoned the Police. The cops secretly deployed at strategic road junctions in the town, ready with their canes. As the boda-boda guys rode past, the cops whipped them on the backs. Nine unlucky guys reportedly fell off their bikes in the melee. Most of them sustained injuries on the elbows and knees. The Police confiscated the motorcycles, which were taken to Mbarara Police Station. The boda-boda men were told to come back for their motorcycles the next day. However, they were also told they would be charged for polluting the town with noise. According to Bull Mugisa, an eyewitness, most of the happy cyclists were whipped, though many of them did not fall. "Three of the guys who were riding with their girls were lucky. It was the girls who took the lashing on their backs instead of the intended culprits. One of the girls who got it square screamed so loud, like she had been shot. However, she did not fall off the bike," Mugisa told The New Vision. Ends
