Electoral Commission gets more photo materials

MORE voter photo identification equipment worth about sh400m yesterday arrived at Entebbe Airport aboard Das Air Cargo plane at 2.00pm. It was handed over to the Electoral Commission.

By Milton Olupot MORE voter photo identification equipment worth about sh400m yesterday arrived at Entebbe Airport aboard Das Air Cargo plane at 2.00pm. It was handed over to the Electoral Commission. The equipment included 3,240,000 registration forms, 5,000 white plastic photographic screens, 2,500 kit boxes, 5,000 masking tapes and 10,000 padlocks. The equipment was supplied by Canadian Organisation for Development through Education Incorporated (Code Inc)as part of the US$8.5m (over sh15b) project to streamline the voters register and cards. The equipment was received at the airport by commissioner Hajat Miiro Nasanga, the coordinator for photo voter cards, and the Code Incorporation Special Project Consultant, Vik Vaid. Miiro said about US$3.2m had so far been released for the acquisition of the equipment including 5,000 digital cameras imported last week. She said government would soon release the remaining $5.384m for the completion of the project. About 268 computers and scanners are expected to be part of the next consignment. She said photographing voters would start soon. Ends.
