Violence irks Basoga

PRESIDENTIAL candidate Yoweri Musevni's publicity committee has decried violence in the campaigns. A statement issued in Kampala yesterday by the committee chairman, Basoga Nsadhu, said national security was one of the major priorities of the Government. "It is false for press reports to insinuate that there exists state-inspired violence such as at which appeared in The Monitor on January 17." The committee urged the candidates to restrain their supporters from violnce. Basoga said security was a the responsibility of all Ugandans. Meanwhile, Basoga, who is also the Minister of Information in the Office of the President, has refuted allegations in the press that rival presidential campaign task forces were not being given coverage by by the State media.
