Hardly a month after establishing themselves as a new band on Uganda's musical scene, Ddembe Musica Band, led by guitar wizard Amigo Wawawa, has been invited to tour London and stage a series of concerts. According to one of the organisers who preferred anonymity, a contingent of 15 members of the band will leave for London at the end of this month for three weeks. The trip, which is sponsored by some Ugandans based in London, will also see Amigo recording his eight-track CD, which he has named Maria. The tracks include some of the songs he composed when he was still with Afrigo Band, which he says he is going to revise. They are Ekikere kiri kumbatta, Safari, Vincent Nyikira okukola, Sijja kuyamba abantu, among others. According to the programme, the band's first show in London is due on February 26, at the Strat Fold Old Townhall in Eastern London where they will perform to a distinguished audience. They will then proceed to entertain people of South London on February 28, in a place called Josmins Banqeping. In the first week of March, they will perform at the Classic Club in SouthWest London and their final show will be at the Eagle & Child Public House in Eastern London. "Amigo Wawawa is a guitarist and a popular musician who has been a great influence on the music scene in Uganda. "He is also a darling of the Uganda population living in London. Whenever Afrigo band goes to perform in London, those Ugandans there ask for Amigo yet he is no longer with them," says a London based coordinator. The coordinator said that this has prompted them to organise the trip. It is easier now to take him now that he has his own band. Amigo launched his three-month -old band a month ago at the Tembo-Inn on Namirembe road. Ddembe Musica band comprises 17 experienced musicians who play different types of beats-Jazz, country, Western, pop, reggae, traditional - just mention the type and you will get it. Ends
