By Ahmed Angulibo THE newly-created Yumbe district has been hit by severe famine and shortage of clean water. The Yumbe LC5 interim secretary for education, health and social services, Mrs. Grace Okuvuru Tabu, recently told The New Vision that a research had revealed that famine was rampant and that clean water sources were few. She said the water problem had barred many women from going for the voter updating exercise. she said the women had asked her why they should do so yet their social needs were not met. "In the research, I found out that water as a basic social need may hinder women from exercising their democratic or constitutional right to vote because they spend much of their time in looking for clean water and therefore miss civic education for the coming presidential elections," said Okuvuru. She said some schools in the district may fail to open up due to shortage of clean water. The schools include, Lodonga, Aniku, Yiba Parents, Awinga, Oluba, Okuyo and Kongbe Primary schools among others. Ends
