We Deserve Pension

Sir- I am one of the retrenchees of 1992 who sued the Government for failing to pay us pension. We won the case and the High Court ordered Ministry of Public Service to pay us pension with costs. Before payment, the ministry categorised us into two groups. The first one was of civil servants who had served 20 years and above, or were 45 years old at the time of retrenchment; the second group was of those who had served less than 20 years and were below 45 years in 1992. They started paying the first group in May last year. For us in the second group, our files were kept pending a decision by the top administrators of the ministry whether to pay us gratuity or pension. About two months ago we were told that the ministry had resolved to pay us pension. But we are now shocked to learn that the ministry has decided to pay us gratuity. By doing so, they are contravening the High Court order that we are all entitled to pension. Henry Luyima Kampala
