The Ekitaguriro to take off first, Anelka last in maiden Mbarara rally

FORMER Africa champion Charles Muhangi in a Subaru Impreza 'Ekitaguriro' was last night drawn to be flagged off first in the Mbarara Motor Club organised rally this weekend.

Muhangi will be followed by the blistering trio of 1999 champion Moses Lumala (Toyota Celica ST 185), reigning champion Charlie Lubega in a Mitsubishi Evo4 and Chipper Adams (Mitsubishi Evo5) respectively. Draws for the two-day rally that is the second round of the National Rally Championship series on the FMU calendar, were conducted at Valentines Pub in Mengo. Muhangi last year put up a good show in the Mbarara-Kigali Petro fraternity rally where he beat his closest challenger Satwant Singh. He will be on familiar terrain in the weekend rally through districts of Mbarara, Ntungamo, Bushenyi and Rukungiri. Cars will be transported to Mbarara today by Long Freighters, ahead of scrutineering tomorrow then the opening special stage. The event is sponsored by Regency Hotel, Horizon coaches, Long Freighters and Agip Motel. Meanwhile FIA officials Leon Yvone and Peter Doggwiler jet in today, on a two-day fact-finding mission of a power struggle that has hit the sport. The FIA officials will meet AAU, the rival FMU, NCS, drivers, clubs, sponsors and other stakeholders in the sport. The draw: 1.Charles Muhangi 2.
