SECURITY personnel on Monday quelled a fight in Busia involving supporters of three presidential candidates, Yoweri Museveni, Aggrey Awori and Kizza Besigye.

By Grace Matsiko and Nathan Ngobi SECURITY personnel on Monday quelled a fight in Busia involving supporters of three presidential candidates, Yoweri Museveni, Aggrey Awori and Kizza Besigye. Eight people were arrested in the stone throwing brawl that lasted over an hour from around 1.00pm. They were detained at Busia Police Station on charges of assault. Several people on Tororo, Jinja and Custom's Roads in Busia town where the clashes took place were injured. Alfred Egole, the Busia officer-in-charge of the Criminal Investigations Department, confirmed the arrest on Tuesday. He said soldiers led by the presidential advisor on political affairs, Major Kakooza Mutale, handed over the suspects to the Police. The Police said the fight broke out after Besigye and Awori's supporters ganged up to disrupt a rally Museveni was scheduled to address in Busia town. They said there were similar attempts on Sunday when Vice-President Speciosa Kazibwe was in the area. Those arrested include Jackson Wanyama Joseph Kintu, Karim Mutenyi, Moses Muyunga and Musifu Katende. Ends
