By William Muwonge ROBERT Kiwanuka beat Michael Wagaba in straight sets as all seeded players made a winning start at the Makerere Open yesterday. Top seed Kiwanuka, a St Matia Mulumba Youth Centre player, beat his unseeded Namilyango college opponent 20-22, 21-16, 21-13 at Makerere University's Africa Hall. Kiwanuka made a low-key start before he found his rhythm to book a place in the second round of the boy's singles event. The three-day competition ends tomorrow. The opening day of the Uganda Table Tennis Association (UTTA) competition was devoted to the boy's singles event. Action in other events starts today and tomorrow. Boy's cadets' singles, the girl's singles, men's team and men's singles play starts today. The girl's singles event is set to begin tomorrow. Other seeded players who made a flying start yesterday include number two player Jude Mutete. The Sharing Youth Centre player outwitted the unseeded St Henry's college Kitovu entrant Edgar Tumwine 21-15, 21-11. Joseph Kirigwajo, the fourth seed, also booked a place in the second round. The Namilyango college student had to work a little hard to beat the unseeded Wilber Kayonga from Kyambogo college 21-18, 21-17. Action continues from 9.00am today with boy's cadets' event. The men and women's singles start late afternoon with hosts MUK fielding a strong team comprised of George Oloya, James Kiyimba and Victor Mawanda. Mildred Senyondo will also be in action. Ends
