THE parliamentary Movement caucus on Wednesday backed proposals by President Yoweri Museveni to amend the Parliamentary Bill, 2000, reports Felix Osike. Caucus chairman Felix Okot Ogong said, "We reached a consensus on most of his proposals but we have to lobby other members to support it in the House." The caucus agreed that women MPs be elected through electoral colleges. Sources said Vice-President Dr. Wandira Kazibwe was assigned to lobby support from other women MPs when the Bill comes up for debate. However, there was disagreement over the composition of the electoral colleges. The caucus also agreed to reduce the nomination fees to sh1m for constituency representatives, sh500,000 for district women representatives and sh200,000 for youth representatives. They also agreed to reduce the leave period to 60 days. Museveni had proposed 30 days. Ends
