By Emmanuel Mulondo A UPDF officer attached to the fifth battalion in Kotido has been arrested in Fort portal for allegedly threatening to burn Mpanga market like arsonists did in Kasese. Corporal Mwesige was arrested on Tuesday by civilians who later handed him to the district internal security officer(DISO). The DISO, Mr. Joseph Kabalega, handed mwesige over to Muhoti military barracks. "He is an indisciplined soldier. he is a deserter from the fifth battalion," Kabalega said yesterday. According to eye witnesses, Mwesige told market vendors in Mpanga Market that what happened in Kasese on Saturday would also happen to Fort Portal. Suspected ADF rebels torched over 50 vehicles and killed 11 people in Kasese town on Saturday. Mwesige's threats worried vendors who wondered whether he was involved in the Kasese incident. Angry residents arrested Mwesige before soldiers could be mobilised. Army spokesman said Mwesige faced serious punishment.
