THE High Court in Mbale has awarded the Kapchorwa Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), John Kashaka Muhanguzi, over sh14m in damages following his dismissal from office by the district chairman, Christopher Chepkurui Songhor. Grace Matsiko reports that the distric deputy registrar, P.P. Okello recently said that Chepkurui should pay Muhanguzi the taxed costs of the suit amounting to sh14,124,600m. The money included legal fees, exemplary damages and costs at a court rate of 8% and 6% per annum from the date of judgement and from the date of assessment, until full payment. Justice D. N. Maniraguha on July 6th, 2000, declared that Muhanguzi was the substantive CAO of Kapchorwa and that the district chairperson had no powers vested in him to interdict a CAO. The judge further ruled that Chepkurui acted outside his powers. Ends
