LIRA district council has unanimously passed a motion seeking to give Kyoga a district status.
Opene Oludi, the Aloi sub-county councillor, moved the motion at a meeting last Friday.
Mrs Ruth Adupa, the council deputy speaker, presided over the meeting which also approved the formation of 17 new parishes, two sub-counties and two counties.
The counties are Ogur, comprising of Agweng, Aromo, Apala and Lira sub-counties, and Awelo, comprising of Arwotcek, Namasale and Etam sub-counties.
Adupa asked the councillors to congratulate themselves for creating Kyoga district.
