Lira Gives Kyoga District

LIRA district council has unanimously passed a motion seeking to give Kyoga a district status.

By Ali Mao LIRA district council has unanimously passed a motion seeking to give Kyoga a district status. Opene Oludi, the Aloi sub-county councillor, moved the motion at a meeting last Friday. Mrs Ruth Adupa, the council deputy speaker, presided over the meeting which also approved the formation of 17 new parishes, two sub-counties and two counties. The counties are Ogur, comprising of Agweng, Aromo, Apala and Lira sub-counties, and Awelo, comprising of Arwotcek, Namasale and Etam sub-counties. Adupa asked the councillors to congratulate themselves for creating Kyoga district. President Yoweri Museveni promised Kyoga residents a district during his recent presidential campaigns. Ends
