The Englishman's countenance has degenerated with every Express match since. He was grim-faced after the Red Eagles, with the help of referee Ben Matovu, snatched victory from the jaws of defeat against Masaka Wednesday. At Lugazi Sunday, May looked like he had been stung by a bee as Express continued to flounder in falling to SCOUL. But the Red Eagles' biggest failing wasn't the fact that they lost, but the way they took it. Fans chairman Saidina Muweesi presumed to tell the coach to his face that he didn't know any football. Several officials took the opportunity to declare that they didn't want the Englishman as coach anymore. When Express recruited massively during the holiday and moved to steady a ship that has not seen level waters for five years, no one imagined they would run the entire season without defeat. But everyone thought that a lengthy trophy-drought was enough for them to have learnt their lesson. Yet again, they have managed to prove their critics right. Express had a miserable game but the goal that condemned them to a second league defeat could have been prevented. May rightly said: I have two internationals in my defence and they are beaten by a simple long ball." Mbarara took full advantage of Express' demise to open up a three-point gap atop the table. Congolese forwards Raul Lukusa and Toto Songe scored as did Joseph Kayemba in a 3-1 victory. At the start of the season Mbarara promised to turn their Kakyeka stadium into a slaughter-house. Ironically, all their defeats have been at home yet they have won all but one of their away matches. It was double pleasure for Mbale Heroes who learnt of the National Football League Committee (NFLC) decision to award them three points off Black Rhino immediately after convincingly beating neighbours Rock Star 3-1 in a heated eastern derby.
