By Josephine Maseruka Mr. Sam Kalega Njuba, the former chief campaigner for presidential candidate Col. Kizza Besigye, yesterday said after extensive consultations Besigye had declined to contest for parliamentary elections. There had been speculation that Besigye was planning to contest for the Kyaddondo East parliamentary seat which is represented by Njuba. Besigye has a farm in Kiteetiika near Masooli in Nangabo sub-county, Kyaddondo in Wakiso district. Njuba said on phone, "Besigye said he would not stoop so low as to contest for a parliamentary seat after contesting for the presidency." He said Besigye's decision was strongly supported by most members of his task force. The Colonel was runner-up to President Yoweri Museveni in the race that was contested by six candidates. Besigye garnered 27.8% compared to Museveni's 69.3%. Meanwhile Njuba has cautioned aspiring parliamentary candidates for Kyaddondo East against using his name for soliciting for votes. He said he would not back any candidate. He added, "I have my vote and I know who to vote for. Let aspiring candidates not deceive the electorate that I am supporting them. "I am not a Kabaka to leave an heir. Let people make their own choice. This time I do not want to influence the parliamentary elections." Njuba appealed to Kyaddondo East residents to vote people who will effectively represent their views and desist from people who want ministerial posts only to turn out to be rubber stamps. Ends
