A team of the ministry and KCC officials which toured invaded farms in Nazareth parish, Nakawa division to verify reports of caterpillar invasion, hailed the residents for taking immediate action. The team was led by the chairperson of KCC's community services department, Emmanuel Serunjoji and Gad Lematia, commissioner for crop protection in the ministry. Serunjoji appreciated the initiative taken by farm owners to spray the caterpillars before the damage got worse. Lematia said the caterpillars first invaded areas in Wakiso, Luweero and Mukono. He said the ministry was waiting for results from samples sent to Kawanda and Namulonge research stations. He said the role of the Government was to survey, verify reports and provide chemicals where necessary. The ministry is currently recommending use of Cypermethylene chemical available in all reputable drug shops at sh12,000 a litre. Ends
