By Rovianne Matovu The Uganda German Cultural Society, recently officially handed over musical instruments from the German Embassy to the disabled band, Bob and The Tonic Band. This unique Ugandan band was founded in 1997 by Bob. But it did not become official until 1998 when the group was inaugurated at The National Theatre. It members are Lubega Bolo, Ethel Marion, Benson Nkwasibwe, Peter Kasayi and Chrisse Kakoma. The German Embassy provided them with an amplified electric guitar and a keyboard. The group practises every lunchtime at the premises of The Uganda German Cultural Society at Nakasero while entertaining the regular clientele of Skovia's café. Mrs Stoll, deputy head of the Mission at the German Embassy handed over the instruments to Bob. The minister, Florence Nayiga Ssekabira, Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social development thanked The Uganda German Cultural Society, and hoped that such enterprises as the band should receive more support in the future. Bob and The Tonic Band hope to spread the word about issues of disability, tackle the problem of their social immunisation and would like to entertain professionally at different functions. Bob's dream is for the group to establish itself at national and international level and to record their songs on CD and with the proceeds, be able to buy other instruments. ends
