By Lillian Nalumansi Four students from Lincoln International School of Uganda returned recently from a maths quest in Cairo. According to a press release from the school, the contest hosted by the British International School of Cairo provided an opportunity for children between 10 - 11 years to meet and share an interest in maths. "Children of different cultures come together and promote their interest in mathematics through curiosity, discovery and fun and also appreciate what quality achievements in mathematics should be. It is a meet characterised by both cooperation and competition," the release read in part. "This year 18 schools participated in this contest and each school sent a team of four students accompanied by a teacher. Participating schools came from Europe, Asia and Africa. Lincoln International School sent in a team from Grade five and grade six accompanied by a teacher Kamini Bridgal," the release further stated. The contest was organised by the European Council of International Schools (ECIS) an international organisation of educational institutions. Lincoln International School is one of the schools accredited by ECIS. The Lincoln students devised a Ugandan maths game which they took to the competition. The six different activities were, Maths trail, Individual challenge, Team challenge, Practical challenge, Construction activity-mixed teams and Investigations. Lincoln students came first in the Maths Trail. Oketch Cynthia a sixth grader, won the construction activity with a team of students from other schools. The three other students from Lincoln were David Lubanga, Ingeborg Karlsnes and Ina Moeller who immensely enjoyed their visit. ends
