SIR-It cannot be said that we have entered our new five-year-term with overwhelming enthusiasm for democracy as we embark on the parliamentary election campaign. There is little sign that the electorate expects to emerge from the experience feeling that its wishes have been heeded.
The system is becoming constrained by the demands of the international community.
