LUBIRI SS upstaged traditional giant schools to emerge champions in the Picfare badminton championships, Sunday at Lugogo Indoor stadium.

By Peter Ekarot LUBIRI SS upstaged traditional giant schools to emerge champions in the Picfare badminton championships, Sunday at Lugogo Indoor stadium. Lubiri edged Mt. St. Mary's secondary school-Namagunga 13-10 to snatch the U-18 girls team title and shared the championship podium with St. Mary's College-Kisubi in the boys team final at 17 points each. The Picfare Industries sponsored championship attracted 28 schools and 520 participants. Kampala HS' Ivan Karimunda took the U-18 boys title after beating Wilson Tukire of APAS school 2-0 in the thrilling final. "I got it right and I am happy to win it," he said. In the all-Namagunga final, Fiona Ssozi beat Georgette Calnan 2-0 to lift the U-18 girls trophy. Lubiri's Nora Nassimbwa beat Angela Oundo of Our Lady of Good Counsel to emerge U-15 girls champion after stopping favourite Shahnaz Othman. St. Peters' Nsambya's Allan Olum beat David Obong of Kisubi for U-15 boys title. Aga Khan's Levi Sebugwawo beat Edwin Juuko of Mityana SS for U-13 boys title and Aga Khan's Farah Diba was U-13 best girl. Baroda U-10 champion Arnold Kwizera lost in the semi finals for Shen Katende to take the boys title while Tracey Alwedo edged Lohana Academy school-mate Tamansa Sebuliba for the girls prize. Chief guest housing state minister Francis Babu said sport helps children learn fair play.
