Sports scribes honour U-14 champs Hat-trick

UGANDA Sports Press Association (USPA) yesterday honoured the Under-14 soccer champions Hat-Trick with the June month's Sportsman award.

By Leo Kabunga UGANDA Sports Press Association (USPA) yesterday honoured the Under-14 soccer champions Hat-Trick with the June month's Sportsman award. Hat-trick polled 325 votes during the sports scribes' monthly meeting at Tourist Hotel in Kampala. The U-14 champions contested the award with Eldoret international chess champion Stephen Kawuma who collected 315 votes and Nile Special Super league top scorer Hassan Mubiru who garnered 305 votes. Express' top scorer last month equalled a 23-year six goal record in a single match set by Jimmy Kirunda in 1978. Mubiru's six goals helped Express to a 8-1 victory over Black Rhino. Hattrick won the City Tyres national U-14 league unbeaten. The scribes commended the national youth athletics team for winning the Eastern Africa junior championship held at Namboole. Other commendations went to Kampala City Council volleyball club that won the Aporu Okol Cup and Nzoia Open championship in Kenya. Ends
