By Gilbert Kadilo THE business community and residents of Kisenyi zone have decried the delay in re-opening Kafumbe Mukasa road. They complained about the decline in business activity in the area and the declining sanitation situation due to interrupted water flow in the Nakivubo channel. The closure of the road has affected several businesses including furniture, metal fabrication works, Owino market and transport in the area. The LC1 chairman Kisenyi 11 zone, Mr. Micah Ssebugwawo, said the delayed project has also blocked access to the area. "The work is extremely slow and the diversion channels cannot cope with the volume of water when it rains. The dirty water carrying all sorts of waste ends up in people's shops and houses. The situation is terrible," Ssebugwawo said. The road, a major access route to the area, was closed in January to allow for rehabilitation of the poor drainage system that frequently led to flooding during the rainy seasons. Although it was scheduled to last three months, the project has taken six months and has brought the usually busy place to a standstill. The chairman Kampala Jua Kali Metal Fabricators Association, Mr. Richard Kakooza, blamed the delay on KCC insensitivity to the resultant suffering. "Although the Chinese constructors completed work on the concrete box for directing water three weeks ago, KCC has failed to re-open the road," he said. Ends
