Karimojong cattle rustlers on Monday night stole 20 head of cattle from Magoro sub-county, Katakwi district.

By Nathan Etengu Karimojong cattle rustlers on Monday night stole 20 head of cattle from Magoro sub-county, Katakwi district. The district council chairman, Mr. Steven Ilemukorit, said on Wednesday that the rustlers sneaked in the evening and drove the cattle from a paddock. He said stolen cows were, however, recovered by the Local Defence Unit (LDU) personnel who pursued the warriors towards the border with Moroto district. Ilemukorit said the Karimojong had continued stealing cattle and food crops from different parts of Katakwi. He said Magoro and Ngariam sub-counties were the most affected. “Their main target is now cassava in the gardens,” Ilemukorit said. He said the Karimojong come in the night and up- root the cassava. “It is just destruction of the crops, since they even uproot premature cassava,” Ilemukorit said. He said the delay by the Government to implement the disarmament had led to wanton suffering in Katakwi district.
