By Gerald Tenywa in Entebbe ENTEBBE municipal council secretary for environment Margaret Masembe has said buildings constructed in wetlands will soon be demolished. This, she said, is meant to stop encroachment on wetlands in the area. Masembe said developers had built houses in Namiiro and Kigungu swamps. “This is illegal because wetlands are protected areas,” she added. She blamed LCs in the area for conniving with developers who construct buildings in the wetlands. She said, “LCs are allocating land to developers without the authority of the council.’’ She was speaking recently at an awareness seminar held at Entebbe. She said there is need to clear with the council before such development is allowed. However, some LCs defended themselves saying encroachers construct their houses at night without seeking permission from them.
