By David Wanyama UNICEF and the government of Uganda Country Programme 2001-2005, will donate sh53m to Busia district to run its activities in its four selected sub-counties under a five-year programme. Busitema, Bulumbi, Masaba and Lunyo are the sub-counties to benefit from the UNICEF donation. UNICEF has donated rain water harvesting tanks worth sh12m to five primary schools in the sub-counties. Isaac Natukunda, the Busia district water officer, told The New Vision the 10-metre cubic water tanks were given to Buhoywa Primary School in Bulumbi and Makunda Primary School in Masaba, Makina Primary School in Busitema, Lwaniha Primary School in Masaba, and Mundindi Primary School in Lunyo sub-county. Natukunda said each school received one tank estimated at sh2.4m. Other UNICEF programmes in the district include supporting birth and death registrations, revitalising support to district special events and promoting children and women’s rights.
