By Douglas Mazune THE Petro Pearl of Africa Uganda rally yesterday suffered a big blow when Dembe rally team boss Karim Hirji pulled out of the ARC event. Karim withdrew from the AAU organised rally due August 31 to September 2 after his new Subaru Impreza WRC 2001 could not be brought to Uganda in time. “He bought the car from Pro-drive and as you know Subarus got spoilt in the Safari rally so they could not finish modifying his car in time,” the rally co-ordinator Sam Sali told The New Vision yesterday. The event press officer James Kamusiime said Burundian Rudi Cantanhede also pulled out of the rally at the weekend after selling his Golf GTI. “Rudi was trying to work on the Mitsubishi Evo3 but I think he will not make it,” Kamusiime said. Muhangi, was last night drawn to be flagged off first. Meanwhile Jamil Sserunjogi in a Toyota Levin entered the TOTAL Quartz rally taking the number of drivers in the event to 12. The MOSAC organised event that starts and ends in Jinja will take place one week after the Petro rally. ends
