Environment Bodies Owed Sh5b

By Edith Kimuli UGANDA owes international environment organisations to which it is affiliated over sh5b, Parliament heard yesterday. The Under Secretary Ministry of Water Lands and Environment, Anne Florence Luziraa, told the committee on natural resources that some of the organisations had written saying Uganda should pay or cease to be a member. She was appearing with Baguma Isoke, the Minister of State for Lands. She said IUCN, a world environment conservation body, wrote to the Ministry last month demanding for subscription by October. Others include World Meteorological Organisation and African Ministerial Conference on Environment. They also include East African Regional Centre for Surveys Nile Basin Initiative and United Nations Environment Programme. Ends
