By Samson Opus UGANDAN professional Jackson Asiku raised his chances of getting an Australian featherweight belt when he handed a technical knockout to Silvino Glonogo from the Philippines on Friday. The Ugandan prize-fighter floored Glonogo with a devastating heavy right hook in the third round. The featherweight fight was an under-card bout of an Australian welterweight title contest where Fred Kinuthia beat Stewart Lincoln. Asiku took charge of the fight right from the first bell of the contest that was scheduled for eight rounds. The Sydney victory improved Asiku’s record to seven wins. “I really feel in good shape in featherweight because I trim only two kilograms,” said Asiku, who moved from the super-featherweight division, in a phone interview with The New Vision. In his last fight, Asiku handed a fifth round knockout to Australian number one featherweight Paul Griffins on July 13. Asiku is one of the three Ugandan boxers who joined the paid ranks soon after the Sydney 2000 Olympics. The other Ugandan Adam Kassim is reportedly still nursing a hand injury. Kassim who is also unbeaten in five fights in the paid ranks, has two knockouts and a draw. The other Ugandan pugilist Mohamed Kizito is however having it hard and suffered another loss to flyweight Vicky Darcherani in a re-match in June. ends
