By James Bakama PAUL Hasule, who recently said that his rivals should wait until next season for the Nile Special Super League title, might have to reconstruct that statement. Hasule should be having sleepless nights after last week’s defeats to Simba and Iganga that halted SC Villa’s one horse title race. The defeats changed the title equation propelling KCC into the championship race. The Lugogo side requires maximum points in their six remaining matches to dethrone Villa. But KCC’s re-emergence was not merely a case of another team doing the spadework for them. David Otti’s team underlined its intentions of edging Villa by recovering from Tuesday’s scary draw with lowly Horizon to beat Military Police 3-1 at Nakivubo. KCC fans’ knew exactly what an ambush in Iganga would mean to their title campaign. The fans, who had in their match against Horizon been ridiculed by Villa fans, closely monitored the Iganga game passionately celebrating Iganga’s win. It might however be too early for KCC to start celebrating. The final battle to determine who will be in charge on the home stretch starts Saturday when the two clash. KCC should also remember that Villa is still advantaged by a weaker opposition in its remaining fixtures. Besides KCC, Villa has Chicago, Black Rhino and Military. KCC on the other hand have to contend with the likes of Express, Mbale Heroes, Simba and Masaka LC V. But, both giants meanwhile have serious weaknesses to rectify. Hasule is blaming his slump to an ineffective midfield, where the absence of Ronald Mugabi, who left for greener pastures in the US and injured Alimansi Kadogo, is being felt. It was also evident on Saturday that Villa, who had against Simba suffered their first league loss of the season, was yet to get terms with the defeat. The team was panicky with Hasule’s defence aiding the loss. Otti on the other hand has to devise a formula of strengthening his defence. The department was at its worst against Horizon. Express, losers to Masaka on Friday, also have to put their act right if they are to finish in a respectable position. The Wankulukuku side that assembled a dream team is yet to put up a performance commensurate to its recruitment. Management squabbles and indiscipline that climaxed in an attack of the referee by the team’s kingpin Hassan Mubiru, have not helped matters. Horizon should also be happy for discovering their winning touch with seven matches to go just as Mbarara United yesterday made prey of Rock Star beating them 2-0. ends
