By Grace Matsiko THE Inspector General of Police, Maj. Gen. Katumba Wamala, has ordered for a probe of a senior UPDF officer for allegedly abducting a defilement victim and interfering in the administration of justice. Sources in the Police and the UPDF on Thursday said Major Sam Bishuba, who is deployed in Bundibugyo, last week allegedly abducted a defilement victim (namewitheld) from Nsambya, in Kampala and forcefully took her to Mbarara Police Station to retract a statement she recorded there accusing his brother, Bakunda, of defiling her. Bakunda is said to be under Police probe in connection with the case. A source said a Police inquiry file had been opened against Bishuba and sent to the CID headquarters in Kampala. The Police deputy spokesman, John Kimera, said, “Katumba says Bishuba’s brother committed defilement and Bishuba was trying to intervene in order to frustrate the course of justice. Katumba advised Bishuba not to interfere in the case but he refused.” Kimera, however, declined to say if Katumba’s directive was tantamount to a probe against Bishuba as sources in the army and the Police told The New Vision. Bishuba, one of the senior UPDF commanders who have been fighting the ADF rebels since 1996, could not be contacted for comment. Sources in the army Special Investigations Branch told The New Vision that Katumba’s directive was copied to the Army Commander, Maj. Gen. Jeje Odongo. Ends
