JOEL Olweny was crowned man-of-the-series of the just concluded Bank of Baroda cricket league.

By Ronnie Kintu JOEL Olweny was crowned man-of-the-series of the just concluded Bank of Baroda cricket league. The teenager got his award at a prize giving ceremony at Lugogo club house on Sunday. The 19-year-old Tornado CC player had a batting average of 63.0 runs, hitting 441 in 12 innings(five unbeaten). His fielding was particularly excellent. Bibodi, skipper of league champions Destroyers, was named best batsman for a total 412 runs in ten innings while Baig Akbar of Tornado CC best bowler with figures of 27/197 runs in 72.3. He in one match picked six wickets for 10 runs. Benjamin Musoke was named best fielder. The colourful prize giving ceremony had acting Indian High Commissioner Gulzar Singh as chief guest. Singh hailed the national squad for a splendid performance at the Mini World Cup in Canada where Uganda’s ICC ranking moved from 24 to 10th. Uganda Cricket Association chairman Francis Kazinduki expressed his gratitude to the 10-year sole sponsorship of the league by Bank of Baroda. He said they are a dependable and trusted bank. General Secretary NCS Abbey Lutaya hailed the Indian community for helping cricket growth in Uganda.
